James Condos

About Me!

Hello! My name is James Condos, I have just graduated from my BSc in Mathematical Physics and my Diploma in Computer Science in 2022, and am beginning a MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Melbourne in 2023.

My passion in STEM comes from my interests in Signal Theory, Machine Learning, Quantum Computing, Embedded Systems, and Physics specifically. These fundemental ideas are pushing the envelope of human nature, and what is inherently contributing to a better tomorrow. My experience and project work has been spread out across mutliple disciplines, and am actively trying to get more involved in interesting engineering and research projects, whilst also gaining more experience in industry.

Melbourne Space Program ACRUX-2 Co-Lead

Jan 2022 - Current

I am currently the Co-Lead of my team ADCS (Attitude Determination and Control Systems) for the launch of our 3U cube satellite of dimensions 30 × 10 × 10 cm.

My job is leading my team in task allocation and work, while having a heavy focus on technical work also. This includes working with microcontrollers for sensors such as magnetorquers, accelerometers, sun sensors, and hardware such as reaction wheels utilising PID control to orient the satellite in space. I also work with algorithms utilising machine learning for image recognition and stabilisation such as the B-Dot Algorithm and Triad Algorithm.

Mathematics Teaching Assistant

Feb 2023 - Current (Part-Time)

I am currently a Mathematics Teaching Assistant at Caulfield Grammar School, where I am mainly helping and teaching students in the areas of their maths that they would like to excel at and improve in.

This comes from myself organising lessons for students, asssting teachers in lesson plans, working in teaching teams and attempting to give students in years 7 - 10 the motivation they need.

GamePlan Coaching Tutor

Aug 2022 - Current

Tutoring high schools students predominantly in STEM subjects Math Methods, Further Maths, Physics, while also privately tutoring university students in first year maths, physics, and computer science.

APA Group Software Engineer

Jan 2022 - March 2022

An internship program, where I was working in the CI/CD and devops team, working with gitbucket and octupus deploy, working on pipelines that focused on ticket management and server stability with TypeScript.

ALTO Climate Challenge Internship

June 2020 - July 2020

A professional development course, where my team were tasked to come up with a solution of allowing companies to work from home. We developed a dashboard with basic funcionality for staff to be used at home, developed in java.

FMG Engineering Work Experience

Nov 2018 - Dec 2018

A Civil Engineering company, where I created slides/presentations and had discussions with clients on site. Learnt about the science and theory behind civil engineering and contributed to a professional work environment that fosters innovation, teamwork and constant improvement.

My Projects

Some of my Personal Projects and University Course Work

Machine Learning Research Paper - Tweet Sentiment Bot

A research paper on labelling twitter tweets as certain emotions based on lexicon and vocabulary used. Utilised Machine Learning Models to train hyper paramaters etc.

Quantum Machine Learning Research Project - Neural Networks

A research project written over the summer under a supervisor, where I researched and learnt about the uses of QML using Qiskit. I focused on neural networks, and how they can be optimised for image recognition in computer vision.

Android App built to Connect University Students

A social media networking app for university students, utilising front end and back end development on a .NET Framework utilising Xamarin, MySQL and C#. Created account databases, account creation, friendship requests etc.

AI Bot to play Cachex Board Game

An AI built to play the board game Cachex, utilising game theory concepts such as MiniMax, Alpha-Beta Pruning, and Machine Learning to optimise pruning such as Gradient Descent, written in Python.

Flappy Bird, but Bigger and Better

A Flappy Bird Desktop App, enhanced with level progression, more dangerous obstacles, and weapons used to clear paths, written in Java.

A Doubly Connected Edge List

A complex Doubly Connected Edge List data structure, which described geometric data. This stores all the information about individual edges, faces, half-edges, and pointers to all these structures, written in C.
